Field trials
In SCY, we focus on real-world needs of science teachers and learners, and therefore continuously evaluate the SCY approach through teacher interviews, usability tests, and pilot studies. In this video you can see how we tested the learning activities from the first SCY mission "Designing a CO2-friendly house". The movie scenes are segmented according to the phases in the SCY mission. After a brief introduction, the video shows an expert on house installations, who was invited to the classroom to assign students to the task. Next you will get a glimpse at how the students play the role of experts and collect further information about different aspects of the task. You will also hear what students think about the assignment. Examples of student products are attached to some of the phases.

Several field trials have been conducted in 2009. These investigations aimed to establish the feasibility of the first SCY mission (design a CO2-friendly house), to test the effectiveness of the jigsaw pedagogical approach, and to explore the use of web-portfolios and peer-assessment, and the use of peer-created ELOs
