SCY aims to take science education to the next level by developing a flexible, open-ended learning environment that truly engages and empowers adolescent learners. Within this learning environment – SCY-Lab – students embark on authentic missions that can be completed through constructive and productive learning activities. SCY Lab provides adaptive support for these activities through cutting-edge technologies as well as pedagogical scaffolds that go well beyond the state of the art.
SCY is aimed at secondary school students and should become a new system for learning by actively researching, designing and producing. Educational research has shown that this type of learning is very well suited for science learning in schools. SCY does not, of course, replace a good teacher or his teaching strategies. It does, however, offer teachers an extra tool for their teaching toolkit. SCY is a different way of working that might, for certain students, contribute to more enthusiasm, to more thoroughly internalized knowledge and/or to a more realistic idea of the real working environment in science and technology.
